Drink The Sea @drinktheseaofficial debut album # I is officially out today [2025-09-19] on all digital platforms. CDs and LPs are available for preorder in the bio link. The 1st song on Drink The Sea's debut album is titled, "Shaking For The Snakes".
The 2nd song from Drink The Sea's debut album # I is called "Saturn Calling." Lead vocals are by Alain and Barrett, and features rhythms the band picked up while traveling and recording in Brazil. Barrett laid down a Samba funk rhythm, Duke and Lisette played the Brazilian Surdo drums, Alain shredded the guitar solo, and Peter did the cool wa wa guitar.
The 3rd song in the sequence from the Drink The Sea debut album # I is titled "Outside Again". The lead vocals are by Duke Garwood with Barrett Martin and Alain Johannes doing the backup vocals. It was recorded at the Rancho De La Luna studio in Joshua Tree, CA where Dave Catching made a special appearance on the slide guitar. Peter Buck and Lisette Garcia round out the sound with the cool, arpeggiated guitar and shimmering vibraphone.
The 4th song in the sequence from Drink The Sea official album # I is titled, "House Of Flowers." It started with an acoustic guitar part that Peter recorded in Sao Paulo, Brazil with Barrett playing along on drums. Then Duke wrote the beautiful lyrics and recorded his lead vocals, with Barrett and Alain doing the backing vocals. Near the end of the session, Lisette, Barrett, and Duke layered in various percussion instruments like marimba, thumb piano, and hand claps.
The 5th song from Drink The Sea debut album # I also closes out Side A on the gatefold double vinyl (coming in November). This song is titled, "Pour Your Glow On," and it's another song we did in Joshua Tree at the Rancho De La Luna studio. Duke sings the lead vocal, Barrett and Alain do the backups, Peter plays the swirling Leslie guitar, and Lisette is on vibraphone.
The 6th song on Drink The Sea debut album # I is titled, "Land Of Spirits." It opens Side B on the double vinyl release. It was recorded at the Rancho De La Luna studio in Joshua Tree, right after the band had been in the city of Manaus on the Brazilian Amazon River. We flew overnight to Los Angeles, drove to Joshua Tree, and recorded the basic tracks in the first couple days we were there. Duke and Barrett do the vocals, Alain is on bass, Peter plays the electric sitar, and Lisette is on percussion.
The 7th song from Drink The Sea debut album # I is titled, "Tuareg Asteroid." It is one of the first songs the band recorded with Alain coming up with the amazing North African-style guitar riff. Over time the song evolved with Alain and Barrett doing the lead vocals, Duke is ripping the soprano sax solo, Lisette is playing percussion and Indonesian gamelans, and Peter is playing the wa-wa guitar.
The 8th song from Drink The Sea debut album # I is called, "The Strangest Season." It's a deep album track that hasn't been released until now. We started this song in Sao Paulo, Brazil with Peter on acoustic guitar and Barrett on drums recording together, and then Duke added his lead vocals (it's also where Drink The Sea got our band name, from one of Duke's lyrics). Dave Catching added the spooky slide guitar, Alain did the cigar box guitar solos, and Barrett sang the backing vocals. Finally, Lisette and Duke added various percussion to the final mix. We hope you like it!
The 9th song on Drink The Sea debut album # I is called, "Paredes," which in Spanish means "walls." We tracked the basics in Joshua Tree at Dave Catching's Rancho De La Luna studio, and then Barrett & Alain did the "vocables" (non lyrical singing) at Alain's studio in Santiago, Chile. Duke played the clarinet solos, and Peter and Lisette added their specialities. The song, being the only one on the album without lyrics, has turned out to be an album favorite.
The 10th song from Drink The Sea debut album # I is titled, "Where We Belong." It started with Peter on acoustic guitar and Barrett on a thumb piano in a Sao Paulo studio, and then Alain wrote the lyrics and sang the lead vocals in his studio in Santiago. Then Barrett, Duke, and Lisette added backing vocals and the result is this gorgeous song.
The 11th and final song on Drink The Sea debut album #I is titled, "Embers." It also has one of the more interesting stories on the album: When Duke and Barrett performed as a duo in Iceland in 2024, they also went into a studio in Reykjavik to collaborate with Sigga, Elin, and Beta Eythorsdottir, the three sisters of the Icelandic group Systur. The sisters did the beautiful backing harmonies and truly captured the essence of Iceland, which is where this album actually began. You can hear them laughing at the very tail end of the song. Barrett played upright bass, Alain played E-bow, Peter played the Leslie guitar, and Lisette played atmospheric percussion.
